"UpEnded"

This year's California winter has been National news. We have had a wet winter, which is both a help and at times a hazard. Rain is always welcome in a state prone to drought, but rain in excess, which for us means lots and fast-falling can have undesirable consequences. Land movement, land slides and erosion can be an unwelcome consequence of a lot of rain. We join with all who are grieving following the temporary closure of Wayfarers Chapel. If you would like to help the Chapel is accepting donations. We are grateful to hear the Wayfarers community has a temporary worship space.

In the garden the rain has brought lots of rapid growth of everything (including weeds) and an explosion of flowers. This week marks the 2nd Sunday in the church season of Lent. This year's theme for the season is "No dirt, no flowers: hope from dust." As a church that welcomes compostable materials regularly we have a pretty concrete association between decay and new life. In a matter of months, apple cores, egg shells and shredded newspaper transform into nutrient rich compost which feed a thriving garden. What we discard, what is spent or un-useable feeds the next thing to come up in the garden.

This Sunday we will spend time with the story of Jesus overturning the tables of the money changers at the temple. You are welcome to join us as we reflect together on transformation and change in our world and in our inner Spiritual lives as we move through this season of Lent.

In Faith,

Rev. Amanda

What We mean when We say All Are Welcome:

At The Garden Church we intentionally welcome all. We do this without requiring adherence to any religious belief or creed. We foster a climate of purposeful inclusion, an environment where all can feel safe, valued, cared for, and given an opportunity to form meaningful connections with the Divine and each other. We cherish the diversity of humanity, a diversity which includes differences in sex, age, race, ethnicity, and national origin, range of abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, financial means, education, and political perspective.

We are also a member Congregation of the Pacific Coast Association of the Swedenborgian Church of North America
