As we round the corner on the month of January, we have been learning again to live with the unexpected. In California, the 3 weeks of rain including the "atmospheric rivers" have been an unexpected part of our New Year. Also unexpected was a break-in and burglary of the Garden in the wee hours of Jan. 5, 2023. Please join us in praying for the thieves who took all of our sound equipment, our lead gardener's tools and a generator which was generously on loan to us at the time. The unexpected event of the burglary was followed a few days later by the unexpected generosity of a family that threw a Christmas Party and requested gifts for our work in the Garden. Many unexpected blessings have also been part of this New Year.
Thanks to a generous grant for this year from our founding denomination, the Swedenborgian Church and the help of many dedicated volunteers we are finishing up the construction and instillation of 2 new sheds, custom cabinetry to house new batteries. The batteries will store the energy collected from the solar panels which are being mounted to the new sheds. We are blessed by the many hands willing to help organize, build, plan, and pitch-in wherever needed.
This Sunday we continue our sermon series in the Gospel of John with Jesus doing something unexpected--turning over the tables of the money changers in the temple. This is a familiar passage to many, yet it flies in the face fo our image of a meek and mild Jesus. Also unexpected is the placement of this story in the Gospel of John. In the other three gospels this story happens a the end of Jesus' ministry, yet the author of John places this story at the very beginning, right after Jesus' 1st miracle.
Join us this Sunday as we dive deeper into unexpected things.
