The garden was wet with rain last week and it was a good for the plants kind of rain. A gentle soaking rain that penetrated deep into the soil. It's the kind of rain that really helps things grow. The result is a lot of happy plants, and also some very large healthy weeds. This past weekend even with the rain we were busy hosting our annual wreath making and taking part in the hometown holiday parade. It was a lot of fun!
This Sunday as we draw closer to Christmas (2 weeks left!), our scripture passages point more and more to the hope we have in Jesus. With Jesus' birth comes hope for us and for this world that more is happening and coming than the difficult challenges we often face.
The prophet says:
"The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad,
the desert shall rejoice and blossom;
like the crocus it shall blossom abundantly,
and rejoice with joy and singing." -Isaiah 35:1-2
It's a picture of hope, a promise that hard things are not forever and that hope in the form of an infant is coming to us and to this world. Join us on Sunday to hear more about hope.
In Faith,
Rev. Dr. Amanda
