The summer is always a special and busy time in the garden. Last week we welcomed a group of young adults from from the Methodist Church in Redondo Beach. Along with some of our volunteers, the group washed and gave Dino a fresh coat of paint. Also last week, our Little Sprouts program for children and their adults, returned to the garden. On Friday, Little hands were busy harvesting carrots, corn and potatoes. The Little Sprouts meet every Friday from 10:30am to noon during the summer months. In the month of July, Our farmer's market stand has been brimming with with tomatoes, green beans, zucchini. Just by looking you can tell summer is in full swing!
As we head into August we are excited to what this next month will bring to the 6th Street Garden. First Thursdays, San Pedro's monthly art walk returns next week, and our garden will be open once again highlighting local musicians. On Saturday August 7th and August 21st our garden will be open the the public for gardening, tours, prayer and meditation. Finally, on the last weekend of the month we have not one but two exciting events the first is Feed and be Fed's Tomato Tasting event, on Saturday, August 28th from 4pm-7pm. Then on Sunday, August 29th beginning at 7pm is a story telling event hosted by our very own Rudy Caseras titled "Reopening and healing: Your stories of Risk, Release, and Recommence." All are welcome to each and every event we hold in the garden.
On Sundays we continue through the prophets completing our time with the prophet Joel this week and looking forward to diving into several of the lesser known prophets throughout the month of August.
