Artwork in Holy Trinity Anglican Cathedral, Port au Prince Haiti -- mostly destroyed by earthquake on Jan. 12, 2010. Castera Bazile painted this section celebrating Christ's baptism. Attempts are underway to retain as many sections of the damaged murals as possible, so that reconstruction attempts can eventually begin, when appropriate and when funding has been secured. The entire cathedral interior was covered with murals painted by Haitian artists during the period from 1950-1951. |

These last few days have been hard for our city. Fires are burning on the north side of the city and county. It is shocking and difficult to watch whole neighborhoods be reduced to ash. We have friends and family who have been displaced and others who are under the threat of an evacuation order. As a community we are fervently praying for an end to these fires, for the firefighters who are doing everything they can in an unmanageable situation. We are praying for those who have perished, those whose homes are lost and those who are still waiting to find out if they have a home to return to. In these difficult times we have also seen community show up. In the neighbor handing out Peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches to anyone who was hungry, to a dry goods collection for those in the temporary shelters to our own Feed and be Fed which is making produce boxes available to anyone hosting evacuees. In the coming days we will know more about how we can all tangibly help, right now prayers are coveted above all. Thank you for joining us in prayer for Los Angeles.
This Sunday we are continuing to follow the church calendar with the Baptism of Jesus. At the beginning of his ministry, Jesus is baptized by his cousin John. We'll spend time this Sunday with this story and on the topic of Baptism. What Baptism means in the Christian tradition and what it means for us as followers of Jesus.
We hope you can join us in this new year.
In Faith,
Rev. Amanda
