"Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his staff; water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their livestock drank." Numbers 20:11
Yesterday morning thanks to the watchful eyes of neighbors and friends of the church we received word that we had an "abundant water" situation in our garden. Sometime between when volunteers left the garden at noon on Tuesday and yesterday morning the connection between the hose and the spigot on the garden wall behind Dino ruptured. The result was a lot of water. As soon as we received word, President of Feed and be Fed Peter Rothe rushed over to the garden and was able to quickly stop the flow of water. This week we are examining our practices to prevent something like this happening in the future. The irony of this incident is that we are spending this month and half of next month focused on water. A precious resource, one which we have too little of here in California and one which is essential to all aspects of our lives.
We have distributed (see the image below) a water wise calendar with tips and actions for water conservation each day this month, along with a prayer or scripture passage to ground our intentional actions. On Saturday, September 18th we are taking part in a beach clean up to help remove some of the trash from our beautiful ocean and we are continuing our sermon series walking through several of the water-centered bible passages.
This Sunday we are spending time with the story of Moses bringing forth water from a rock to the Israelites in the desert. Join us as we take a closer look at the needs all living things have for water.
